Nov 22: The Magician’s Nephew, chapters 11-15

On Sunday, Nov. 22, we will discuss The Magician's Nephew, chapters 11-15. Greta Gerwig's film adaptation of this book will be released in early 2027. There has been a lot of conversation about the movie, so now is a good time to refresh on Lewis's story. An audio version of The Magician's Nephew is read by Kenneth Branagh (2001). I was on a waitlist for a while, but then I was able to listen to it on my phone through Libby. I enjoyed Kenneth's voices for the Bulldog and other animals.

C. S. Lewis died on Nov. 22, 1963, so our meeting occurs on the 63rd anniversary of Lewis’s passing. Then on Nov. 29, we remember Lewis's birth in 1898, 128 years ago. * Nov. 29 is C. S. Lewis Reading Day (see below). * Also, Holy Trinity Church, Headington Quarry, will host Imagine Lewis: A Celebration of the Arts and Spirituality Inspired by the Legacy of C. S. Lewis on Nov. 21-22. This is mostly an in-person event; however, online tickets are available for the livestream of Malcolm Guite's "Lewis and Logres" talk and poetry reading. * Also note that the first Sunday of Advent is Nov. 29.

Follow-up from the last meeting:

Lewis's Preface to B. G. Sandhurst's book How Heathen is Britain? (1948) was mentioned. The Preface was later published in God in the Dock as "On the Transmission of Christianity," which our group read and discussed in May 2015.

The Chronicles of Narnia and Philosophy (2005) was mentioned.

Central Texas C. S. Lewis is a reading group that meets in Austin, Texas.
